Product - The Hard Part is Done

Principal photography is completed on our feature-length documentary, shot on-location in Tel Aviv. The documentary features a cast of fun-loving, engaging complex individuals, led by sponsored surfer Refael Peretz, who guide us through their world and introduce us to a side of Israel you won't see in the newspaper or cable TV.  This absolutely unique, apolitical experience follows Ref during his last days of "freedom" before his government-mandated armed service, and his last days of being a kid.

Candid footage, action, and interviews offer conflicting perspectives and opinions about enlisting in the military, including from his surrogate family in the surf community, as well as the people who make up the cornerstones of his life.

Audience - Wide Demographic Appeal

Barrel is a four-quadrant movie. Not only will it appeal to the 23 million surfers in the world, it will appeal to the hundreds of millions of people who feel a connection to the Holy Land and are interested in an accurate, honest take on what it is like to live there. Aside from its domestic and international theatrical, cable, and VOD prospects, DOWN THE BARREL, will have long lasting appeal to religious communities, Middle Eastern Studies departments, and surfers around the world.

Our Advantage - Untold, Cool Story + Engaging

Despite being in the international news daily, the reality of daily life in Israel has many important, universal-- and untapped-- stories. This is one of them. You have not seen it before.

What You're Getting Involved With

There are many voices in the film: some tell him to fight, some tell him to ditch and some tell him to just catch more waves . What emerges is a complex matrix of societal pressures, all set against the backdrop of the Mediterranean Sea.

Tel Aviv provides the setting for the doc. Nothing is simple here, in a city brimming with energy and joy, cynicism and aggression. It is a place like no other. Beyond the headlines, life goes on, normally- even if normal for Refael is a three year stint in the military.
